PRESS RELEASE – FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Dope Dealer Doing time at
(School or Theater Name)
What are you planning on telling your kids about your drug
use? Just Say No? What about your drug use?
“I got high, but that was back then.” “It
was great until I freaked out.” Nothing?
As parents, and citizens, it is a very difficult to help our
children make the right choices. The drug war is upon
us, pharmaceuticals are all around us, weed is medicine, Ecstasy
is available like Huxley’s Soma, but in our drug addled
society we have yet to see someone step up to the plate and
publicly discuss the pros and cons of drug use from the deep
well of personal experience. Our president certainly
hasn’t, so who can we rely on? The man who turned
us on, sold us the kind, made the party a party, the highest
of the high, coolest of the cool, the mythological dope dealer.
Sheldon Norberg, author of acclaimed memoir, Confessions
of a Dope Dealer, (*) and founder of the Underworld Opera
Company, will be performing his one-man adaptation of the
work at Your College or Theater from October
24 through November 10.
Dealing’s not for everyone, and it exacts a heavy toll,
but Norberg hilariously rakes through the coals of his former
career; from a boyhood as best and brightest, opening the
door to knowledge not held in the encyclopedia, through the
tunnel of drugs to acid-tripping blown-away detritus, always
searching for the ember of illumination (upon which he occasionally
burns himself). His drug use may not have been average, but
his examination of the factors leading to drug exploration
and the mistakes that drive it into abuse are well charted,
open for all to see, and hopefully avoid themselves.
Anyone with a drug experience will give a nod of recognition
as Norberg invites the world to laugh at the mistakes that
almost cost him his life.
Noted for his work as with the Underworld Opera Company, Sheldon
returns to the stage with his first solo production after
having to sit out the statute of limitations. In addition
to his book and show, Sheldon is active in the Harm Reduction
community, educating teens realistically about drug use and
the responsibilities that come with it. His work is
an intensive exploration into the lure of drug culture, and
how even the brightest minds using the best drugs can fall
into the black hole.
Confessions of a Dope Dealer runs Wednesdays
through Saturdays, from October 24 through November 10th,
at Your College Theater. (Address) tickets blah blah

Reviews -
New York Magazine
"Honesty and pragmatism define his refreshingly undidactic discussions, and Norberg's comedic timing is impeccable. (His physical humor and vocal machinations land him somewhere between Kramer and Rod Serling.) This is one smart, buoyant public service announcement that, in a sane world, would infiltrate our public schools as easily as pot does." - Will Doig -
New York Times
“Indeed, with his shaved head, piercing eyes, all-black outfit and dynamic delivery, Mr. Norberg could be mistaken for a rogue preacher…. Whether you applaud or loathe Mr. Norberg's beliefs, he offers perspectives seldom heard in the mainstream.” - Hy Bender -
NACA
"Sheldon Norberg's performance about substance abuse was the most realistic, comprehensive, and entertaining presentation on the subject that I've had the pleasure to experience in my 30 plus years in higher education."
